Much loved by the late John Peel, the UK Subs were high on my list of "must see" bands at the 2009 Wickerman Festival. I had tried to explain to my teenage son, to the best of my ability, what they were like but eventually settled on saying "just wait until you here them". I had played him a few tracks but the recordings do not really convey the energy of the UK Subs running at full throttle. Needless to say my son was blown away after the first few bars of their first song. Me, I just stood there in awe. One of the security guys said to me later that they appeared to be a little slower than the last time he saw them but I do not know if he had his tongue in his cheek at the time. The highpoint for me was the obvious, Stranglehold. Yeah it is my favorite song of theirs and it sounded just as good as when I first heard it in 1979.
