The Zutons at the Wickerman Festival 2009

The Zutons headlined the Saturday, playing just prior to the burning of the Wickerman. Arriving on stage a little late I noticed they were not their usual "chatty" selves (they engaged the audience much better at the last gig I saw them at but this may have been because it was in Liverpool). However this had no effect on their musical performance which was, as is usual, flawless projecting so much energy you couldn't help but be moved. The superb sound system this year played a major part in ensuring that each and every person heard the Zutons in awe inspiring HiFi sound all the way back to the food stalls and in all directions.
One thing I really enjoy about the Zutons playing live is the fact that the sax interacts with the guitar in a way which is not captured in the studio. While others may complain that the clarity of the sax is lost I much prefer the sax lower in the mix. Unfortunately I had to leave the Zutons early to ensure that I got to the front of the crowd for the burning of the Wickerman. Walking up towards the Scooter tent I could hear the Zutons until I passed the food stalls and then I began to hear Bad Manners. Sadly I did not have time to photograph Bad Manners as the crowd extended well beyond the boundaries of the tent - though I did get a glimpse of them in full throttle.
