One of the bands I had missed at previous Wickerman Festivals was Dreadzone so this year I made a special point of dragging the family from the Scooter tent to see them. It's always difficult to judge whethter or not everyone in the family will enjoy a particular band or not and with so many excellent bands to see it is often difficult to convince every member that this is the band to see. Dreadzone are one of those bands which you can not help but bounce along to so, needless to say, everyone in the family had an excellent time and Dreadzone are one of our stand out bands of Wickerman 2009.
When Dreadzone's MC Spee hobbled on stage holding onto a crutch I thought that we were in for a bit of a let down but nothing could be further from the truth. MC Spee worked the Wickerman crowd with expertise and the place was buzzing. The superb sound system allowed the thumping bass to cut through without clouding or overpowering the upper frequencies - or, in plain English, it sounded perfect. With only five of the crew on stage the sound was surprisingly full and they sounded so much better live than I had actually expected. One thing is for certain, I will be seeing this ban live again, hopefully at another return to the Wickerman Festival ;-)
