Advertising on Virtual Scotland
Over the years Virtual Scotland has grown rather gradually from a hobby site to a larger information portal. Just recently we decided to move towards a more corporate image and we have removed the advertising from the header and all pop-ups and pop-unders. Unfortunately we still have the need to cover costs so some adverts had to remain. As we run the site on a not-for-profit basis we do try to keep this to a minimum and any excess income is immediately invested into the site.
Our intention has always been to promote Scotland and it's tourism industry at a minimal cost but also attracting new custom. We have therefore decided that we will offer a limited number of Scottish businesses (including B&B etc.) a free listing if they have a web site of their own. All we ask is that you give us a link on your homepage as follows:
We are listed on Virtual Scotland
Code:
<p align="left">We are listed on <a href="http://www.virtualscotland.co.uk/" target="_blank">Virtual Scotland</a></p>
When the link has been added please contact us.
What if I don't have a web site?
Unfortunately if you do not have a web site and wish to be listed on Virtual Scotland there will have to be a small charge. The cost will depend on exactly what you would want and the work involved in setting it up for you. In all cases we would try to keep the cost as low as possible - around £50 p.a. which is far, far less than other publically funded sites!
If you want to have your site listed, just lineage or a complete page or two contact us to discuss.
Is it worth getting listed?
Well, of course, we would say yes and, if you have read this far you may have already realised that there are some benefits to a listing. Firstly you will be listed on a site that is continually expanding and continuously promoted. If you own your own site we will provide a link back to your site which is priceless as our site should be directly relevant. Such a link is worth the annual charge alone - that is why we offer the service free if you give us a link!
However the most important aspect of being listed on Virtual Scotland is your support. We aim to continue improving the site and it's listings on the search engines to rival that of the large publically funded organisations which are failing to provide the support of our industry. We believe a site should be clear and precise but above all easy to use and easy to find the information you require.
What can I do to help?
We value all forms of support. Financial support is always welcome but not expected. There are two things that you can do to help us and they will only cost you your time. Firstly any links to the site are greatly appreciated and really do help the site. Secondly we really value visitors input. If you have photographs or an article that you have the copyright to and would like to see it on Virtual Scotland please contact us to discuss.
