East Ayrshire has a diverse range of visitor attractions in its 490 square miles. Facilities exist for discovery of family history, the budding geologist, the keen angler, the avid hillwalker, the sports enthusiast and much more. Above all these the beautiful countryside never fails to impress and all visitors to East Ayrshire will find something to their taste.
Kilmarnock is the largest town and administrative centre of East Ayshire. The town has the oldest professional football club in Scotland, Kilmarnock FC, at Rugby Park. Golfers have a choice of 2 courses, Annanhill Golf Course and Caprington Golf Course, the later having both an 18 and a 9 hole.
Things to see and do around East Ayrshire
The Baird Institute, in Cumnock is a popular History Centre and Museum which opened in 1891 and holds a Mauchline ware collection of world importance together with displays of Cumnock pottery. You will also find exhibits of mining equipment, photographs and artefacts of local history. The centre allows access to historical records such as maps, photographs, parish records and registers perfect for investigating family history.

The Scottish Industrial Railway Centre, Minnivey, Dalmellington, is an industrial heritage museum with a fine range of locomotives and rolling stock that span a period of some 80 years. Operated by the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group the centre is also home to a fascinating collection of railway related photographs.
