North Ayrshire includes the historic region of Cunninghame as well as several islands such as the Isle of Arran and Cumbraes which are heavily dependant upon the tourism industry. North Ayrshire Council boasts that the region has world class sport and recreation facilities. Certainly golfers are well catered for with the region having three 'Pay as you play' courses; the eighteen hole Ravenspark and Routenburn golf courses and the nine hole at Auchenharvie. The region also has the only 12 hole golf course in Scotland. Overall there are 20 top golf courses with the courses of Old Prestwick, Troon and Turnberry all nearby.
Things to see and do around North Ayrshire
Blackshawe Farm Park, West Kilbride, provides a great family day out and excellent fun for children who can participate in some of the day to day activities on this working farm. As well as an indoor adventure fort, pony rides the park also gives tractor and trailer rides and four wheel ATV's and a coffee shop.

Glasgow Vennel Museum & Burns Heckling Shop, Irvine, is noted for its exciting exhibitions. The museum is at 10 Glasgow Vennel the historic, cobbled street where Robert Burns once lodged. Behind the museum is the thatched Heckling Shop where he learned the trade of flax dressing.

Scottish Maritime Museum, Harbour Street, Irvine, invites you aboard the Carrick, the world's oldest clipper ship. You will also be introduced to Clyde 'Puffers' and tugs. There is also a restored shipyard worker's house and other exhibits that help demonstrate Irvine's history as a seaport and the maritime history of Scotland.
