The photograph above was taken with a Nikon D70. In this photo you can clearly see the wicker with which he is made. The Wickerman Music Festival is a music festival with a theme based upon the classic movie "Wickerman" (the original NOT the Hollywood remake which is vastly different).

Ever since I saw a National Geographic type documentary about the evacuation of St. Kilda in the Outer Hebrides (which was shown on TV around the mid 1970's) I have had a fascination with the Scottish Islands. When I first saw the Wickerman it was virtually unknown but when I first visited the Hebrides I was amazed that some aspects of the society were similar to those in the movie.

Now the film has a cult following and the music festival is a worthy tribute to this weird and wonderful "Hammer House of Horror" type masterpiece. The weirdness of the movie is mirrored superbly and the whole event is watched over by the Wickerman who is eventually set on fire. The wickerman was known in various parts of Europe but historians believe that Scotland has the unique honour of being the only place where they stuffed the wickerman with humans. Elsewhere they sacrificed animals but in Scotland they sometimes included humans. There are also ancient reports (by the Romans I think) of Wickermen being stuffed full of humans only.
