Scottish Culture
The Culture of Scotland
Scotland's culture is incredibly rich having gained influences from a variety of races over the centuries. While little remains of some of the earlier tribes, such as the Picts, their influences would have merged with other tribes about at the time. Unfortunately much of what we know of the Picts has been gained from their artwork. Later races left more permanent effects upon the nation but much depends on which region of Scotland you are looking at. In the Scottish Borders influences were gained from the Roman occupation of England, the English themselves, the Welsh and others, while in the very North and North West the influence of the Celtic, Gaelic and Norse was felt the strongest.
Today, as always, the culture of Scotland is changing. Much influenced by the television, and other media, today's Scot finds himself being heavily influenced by such faraway places as the USA. The articles below look at various aspects of the ancient and modern day Scottish culture.
