About Ayrshire and Arran

Ayshire is to the south of Scotland and the region is known for it's outstanding beauty and for being the birthplace of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. The area is often referred to as "Burn's country" and it is true that the poet is widely celebrated with the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries and you will find many sites around Alloway (just sounth of Ayr) in the Burns National Heritage Park.

Things to see and do around Ayshire and Arran

Culzean Castle And Country Park, Maybole includes a deer park, an adventure playground and woodland walks. The castle was designed towards the end of the 18th Century and is open to the public between the months of April and October.

Logan Botanic Garden, Port Logan. Here you can experience the southern hemisphere in Scotland's most exotic garden which is open to the public between March and October. The Walled and Woodland Gardens contain many examples of rare and unusual plants from around the globe.

Abbotsford House, Melrose was built and lived in by Sir Walter Scott the famous 19th Century novelist. It is open to the public between the months of Marth to October when you are able to see his study, library, drawing roon, entrance hall and armouries.

Arran is simply unique, there is no other island in Britain as geologically complex as Arran. It's 165 sq m (427 sq km) is divided by the Highland Boundary Fault and the diversity in the landscape is the reason why it is sometimes referred to as "Scotland in minature". The island of Arran has much to offer the tourist and no island vacation would be complete without a visit to Brodick Castle. The island is easy to tour as it has the perfect touring road taking you all around the island making driving truly enjoyable. You may also wish to take in the delights of the Isle of Arran Distillery at Lochranza. This single malt whisky distillery is open all year and offers whisky tours, interactive displays, an audio-visual room and a shop where you may purchase the famous tipple.
