The above photograph was taken using a Nikon D70, it shows one of the wooden carvings that could be found here, there and everywhere around the Wickerman Festival site. I hope you can see the bunny?
In the background, to the right, is an amazing light installation that I found most enjoyable as it took on a different "life" depending from where you viewed it. From a short distance away it looked like globe, rather like a ball of wool but using light strands and stars instead of wool. It looked a bit like a planet from Star Trek™ but from a greater distance it really did look like we had a new moon! Up close and personal you could see that it was a huge white ball with several projectors projecting images upon it - cool.
The big red and yellow strip is the furthest away but, due to its brightness, it appear far closer than it really is. It is one of the rides at the fairground, one of those terrifying things that spin around sending you up to great heights. I waited until it was in its present position and static to create a reasonable structure to the photograph. I was attracted, initially, by the bunny rabbit carving that was about six feet high but when I looked around the contrasting colours just had to be included.
I know that, to take a good photograph it is advisable to have something to reference the size/scale of the image but I feel that this would have spoilt the shot as the only thing that could be included was people. However, if you look closely at the light installation to the right you will be able to see the silhouettes of people standing around it - which should give you an idea of scale.
I think I will be going to the 2008 Wickerman Festival in the summer so I hope that there will be equally amazing art installations around the site.
