This year we were allowed onto the Wickerman Festival site a little early so that myself, my son (James K) and daughter (Abbey-Rose) could study the Wickerman in detail without interference. We are so grateful for this opportunity which allowed us to experiment greatly and, in doing so, we were able to capture some rather unusual images. The Wickerman photo above was taken by James K after he had spent a great deal of time lying on his back waiting for the right clouds to appear, thankfully it was a windy day and he didn't have to wait too long before some interesting cloud formations appeared to act as the perfect backdrop.
Scotland has some of the finest skies I have ever witnessed. Wherever you are in this wonderful country you are almost guaranteed to get a half decent sky. In places, such as the Hebrides, the light is truly unique and though capturing them means waiting for that special couple of minutes it is well worth the time and effort. Each year we have been to the Wickerman Festival we have been blessed with wonderfully blue skies with interesting and deeply dimensional skies. With just a tiny amount of dodging and burning it is possible to get close to the original appearance. Such is the wonder of the sky, in Dumfries and Galloway, it is possible to create an image that resembles something near to HDR photography from a single exposure.
