The View From Stirling Castle
The above photograph shows the view from Stirling Castle, Stirling, Scotland taken from near the entrance. Directly behind me was the castle car park which forced me up close to the monument however, by using a wide angle lens I was able to fit in all of the monument which looks rather bold.
The monument is of Robert The Bruce looking outward from Stirling Castle. Behind the monument can be seen some of the city of Stirling and, on the mound in front of the hills has upon it the Wallace Monument (which can only just be seen).
The day on which the photograph was taken was one with typically Scottish weather. One minute it was pouring with rain, cold and windy, the next it was warm dry and sunny. The photo was taken following a shower as the sun once again broke through the rain clouds and the sky was bright blue again.
If you look at the foreground you can see the wet. Unfortunately it took me a while to frame the image and set the exposure, even then the strong sunlight darkened the foreground so a balance had to be struck. Happily the resulting final photo is rather pleasing but it may not look so great on darker monitors.
The approach to Stirling Castle is very steep and, if you are disabled, elderly or very young it is advisable that, rather than walk, you remain in your vehicle. Disabled parking space is available near the entrance to the castle but it is still a fair walk and even more walking on uneven ground is required to explore the castle fully.
Even on a rainy day if you are visiting the city of Stirling, Scotland, you should try to allocate at least an hour or two for a visit to the castle. I can almost guarantee that you will not regret it.
