Archibald Joseph Cronin - A Famous Scottish Writer
Archibald Joseph Cronin (1896 - 1981) Archibald Joseph Cronin practised medicine in South Wales and London until the success of his first novel "Hatter's Castle" in 1931, which he wrote during an illness, enabled him to become a full-time writer. He had few claims to be an artist, but he was a story-teller, and with many best-sellers to his credit in numerous languages. Among these are "Grand Canary" (1933), "The Stars Look Down" (1935), "The Citadel" (1937), "The Green Years" (1944), and "The Spanish Gardener" (1950). In 1953 he published a volume of autobiography, "Beyond this Place".
