Earls of Angus - One of the Seven Original Earldoms/Mormaerdoms
According to the "text de Situ Albanie"Angus was, said to be, one of seven brothers who each ruled one of the seven original earldoms / Mormaerdoms of the ancient Pictish kingdom of Alba (now part of Scotland)***.

***Determining the history of Scotland is a difficult task as little to none of it's history is backed up by contemporary evidence. Much of the evidence that did exist has been lost due to many different disasters ranging from fire, to theft and even due to documents being stored poorly. However there are some facts of which we can be certain. Virtually no contemporary written history exists of the Picts and the Mormaers of Angus are among the most obscure of all the Mormaerdoms of Scotland.
