Robert Anderson
Robert Anderson - A Famous Scottish Author and Critic
Robert Anderson (1750-1830) was born, on January 7, 1750, at Carnwath, Lanarkshire. He studied divinity at the University of Edinburgh but changed to studying medicine. He spent some time practising as a surgeon before studying at the University of St Andrews where he obtained a degree of M.D., graduating in 1778.
Robert Anderson then moved to England where, at at Alnwick in Northumberland, he practiced as a physician. Following his marriage to the daughter of John Gray he found himself financially independent and able to cease working. He move back to Edinburgh to concentrate on his literary work.
For several years his attention was occupied with his edition of "The Works of the British Poets, with Prefaces Biographical and Critical" (14 vols. 8vo, Edin., 1792-1807).

- The Works of John Moore, M.D., with Memoirs of his Life and Writings (Edin., 7 vols., 1820)
- The Grave and other Poems, by Robert Blair; to which are prefixed some Account of his Life and Observations on his Writings (Edin., 1826).
Robert Anderson died February 20, 1830.
