A side in the local amateur football league had just acquired a new player of great energy and ferocity but little else. In his first game against the team from the neighbouring town, the new player ran up against its captain, a small, balding, red-haired figure who neatly snaffled the ball from him. It happened again. And again. Losing his temper when it happened a fourth time, he muttered,
"If you do that again I'll bite your head off."
"Do that," said the other, "then you'll have more brains in your belly than you've got in your head."
